Apayao Guv says autonomy enhances development

LUNA, Apayao, (PIA)-- Autonomy, without doubt ,will boost development of this rich in natural resources but underdeveloped province in the Cordillera.

Governor Elias Bulut Jr. made this pronouncement stressing that Apayao people have voted in favor of the previous organic act and will again support and vote yes for the third organic act present being ironed out.

‘Our province for sure will benefit if we acquire an autonomy status, where we can manage our own very rich natural resources, like for example, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) would allow traditional owners of hard wood tree stands in the province to harvest what they planted for their domestic needs,’ Bulut explained.

‘Vital road networks and bridges in our province is very much needed. At present, we have four entry points going to the province making governance and delivery of services to the people difficult, he said.

Bulut said that Upper Apayao composed of the municipalities of Kabugao and Conner, is reached via the Pinukpuk, Kalinga and Tuao, Cagayan roads while Lower Apayao covering the municipalities of Sta Marcela, Pudtol and Flora is reached via Abbulog, Cagayan.

Calanasan, on the other hand, is reached through the Claveria, Cagayan Road in the North.

Autonomy will benefit the Cordillera region as a whole, Bulut said, saying that it will empower the regional government to act on issues distinct and urgent to the Cordillera but which it is not a priority of the national government.
“Autonomy, will for sure address all of our needs in the entire region. This the third time we are given a chance to vote in favor of the organic act which may not be perfect but we will improve it as time goes,” Bulut added. *(JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR)
