BONTOC ISSUES EO ADOPTING LOCAL REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVT

BONTOC, Mt. Province – An Executive Order adopting the Local Regional Economic Development (LRED) in Bontoc and creating its technical working group was issued recently. LRED accordingly employs a participatory, action-oriented and holistic approach. This is jointly participated by public and private stakeholders in improving economic growth and generating employment opportunities. Municipal Mayor Pascual A. Sacgaca issued Executive Order No. 08, S. 2011 on March 22, 2011 adopting the LRED. The capital town and the commercial center of the province needs a comprehensive and relevant economic plan for medium term development. The LRED approach as presented and proposed for local economic development planning made positive and impacted results to towns and cities that adopted such. LRED is a process by which stakeholders from both public and private sectors as well as from the civil society are mobilized to become partners in a joint effort to improve the economy of a defined sub-national territory and thus increase its competitiveness. The local chief executive’s order also created a Technical Working Group which is composed of Councilor Ignacio Afidchao, SB Chairman on Trade and Commerce, Economic Enterprise, Market Affairs; Nora Falolo of the Mayor’s Office as the LRED Point Person; Joel Fagsao of the Department of Trade and Industry as the agency’s LRED Point Person; and representative from the Xijen College of Mt.
