BAGUIO CITY – “Thank you, centennial commissioners….” Thus, in a nutshell, declared thousands of 101st Baguio Day observers as members of the Centennial Commission (CenteCom) were feted during the September 1 program at the Baguio Convention Center (BCC). It was a simple albeit poignant awarding ceremony signifying “the job is not just done… it was excellently completed.” Members recognized for their service to the city include CenteCom chair Dr. Virgilio Bautista, Bishop Carlito Cenzon, Japanese consul Carlos Teraoka, Arch. Joseph Alabanza, the academe’s Benjamin Salvosa, Dr. Ronaldo Paraan, Dr. Julie Cabato, secretary Silvestre Afable, Michael Pearson, Dr. Charles Cheng, former councilor Edilberto Tenefrancia, Leonarda Capuyan, and councilor Fred Bagbagen representing then City Council’s committee on education. Days before the city’s founding anniversary, Bautista in an August 25 letter to mayor Mauricio Domogan said, “We officially terminate operations as a Commission on August 31.” On behalf of the CenteCom he added, “We immensely thank the City government for the honor of [planning and preparing for the celebration of the city’s 100th] anniversary.” Meanwhile, Domogan, acknowledging the group’s unselfish contributions expressed gratitude to members of the CenteCom. On the matter of the group’s recommendations a hundred years hence, Domogan assured commissioners it will not go to waste. “Their development suggestions and maintenance recommendations shall be part of our planning processes… they will be considered,” he assured. The CenteCom office at BCC, meantime, shall continue with its wrapping up activities and shall turn over all equipments to the city upon conclusion of their report.**isl OTHER TOP STORIES
