CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE DIFFERENT COMMITTEES NAMED

BAGUIO CITY  - The new city council last week announced the new committee assignments designated during a special session held after the members had their oath-taking last  June 30.
Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas said that the members of the council decided to undertake voting process to determine the chairmanship of the 15 committees and the council’s representatives to various boards and other bodies.
Coun. Peter Fianza retained his chairmanship of the committee on Education, Culture and Historical Research and will have Councilors Isabelo Cosalan, Jr. and Faustino Olowan as his members.
The Committee on Laws will still be chaired by Coun. Richard Cariño with Councilors Datuin and Bagbagen as members.
Coun. Betty Lourdes Tabanda will take on the committee on Social Services, Women and Urban Poor as its chairman again with members Councilors Elaine Sembrano and Karminn Cheryl Dinney Yangot.
 Coun. Elmer Datuin will carry on as chairperson of the Committee on Tourism, Special Events, Parks and Playgrounds and having Councilors Cariño and Sembrano as members.
Chairmanship of the Committee on Youth Welfare and Sports Development will remain with Coun. Dinney Yangot with members Councilors Roberto Ortega and Fianza.
The committee Barangay Affairs will be led by the ABC President with members Councilors Tabanda and Alangsab.
Coun. Cosalan will take on the chairmanship on Employment, Livelihood and Cooperatives, Handicapped and Persons with Disabilities with Coun. Edison Bilog and Karminn Cheryl Dinney Yangot being the members.
On the Health and Sanitation, Ecology and Environmental Committee, it will be chaired by Coun. Bagbagen with members Councilors Ortega and Tabanda.
Coun. Ortega will lead on the Committee on Human Rights, Justice, Public Protection and Safety, Peace and Order with Councilors Leandro Yangot, Jr. and Cariño as members.
Market, Trade and Commerce will be chaired by Coun. Sembrano having Councilors Cosalan and Fianza as members.
Coun. Joel Alangsab will take chairmanship on Public Utilities, Transportation and Traffic Legislation with members Councilors Yangot, Jr. and Bagbagen.
On the other hand, Coun. Olowan will head the Committee on Public Works with Bilog and ABC President as members.
Urban Planning, Lands and Housing was given to Coun. Yangot, Jr. with members Councilors Datuin and Alangsab.
Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas will continue to chair the Ways and Means and Finance. Councilors Tabanda, Yangot, Jr., Cariño, Datuin and Bagbagen are the members on Cluster A specifically on the budget, appropriations and expenditures.
Cluster B which concentrates on taxes, fees and other charges, investment, public indebtedness and bond flotation will be having Councilors Bilog, Olowan, Fianza and K. Yangot being the members.
Councilors Ortega, Alangsab, Cosalan, Sembrano and ABC President are the members of the Cluster C focusing on the review of barangay budgets and barangay tax ordinances, people’s organizations, non-government organizations and matters of general concerns.
Committee on Ethics, Governmental Affairs and Personnel will be chaired by Coun. Bilog having Coun. Olowan and the ABC President as members.  However, Coun. Bilog tendered his irrevocable resignation as chairman of the said Committee last in the afternoon of July 1.
The matter will be deliberated on the next session considering that it will affect the city council’s structure said Vice Mayor Fariñas.
“Unfortunately, he resigned.  I hope he will reconsider”, mayor Domogan said.  
Sangguniang Panlungsod representatives to various special committees, boards and other bodies are Councilors Fianza (City School Board), Bagbagen (City Health Board), Bilog (Personnel Evaluation Board), Ortega (Peace and Order Council), Datuin (Baguio City Tourism Council), Sembrano (Baguio City Market Authority), Yangot, Jr. (Committee on City Land Needs Identification and Survey), and Cariño (Bids and Awards Committee).
Barangay Administrative cases will be chaired by Councilors Tabanda for Division 1, Fianza for Division 2, and Vice Mayor Fariñas for Division 3.
