Nutrition month celebration starts

BAGUIO CITY – The celebration of the 39th nutrition month with the theme: “Gutom at Malnutrisyun, Sama-sama nating Wakasan” shall be launched by the Health Services Office (NSO) and Baguio City Nutrition Council (BCNC) this Monday, July 8, during the regular flag-raising ceremonies at the city hall grounds.
Key messages shall be delivered by Councilor Joel Alangsab while Committee head on Health and Sanitation, Ecology and Environmental Protection Councilor Fred Bagbagen gives details of the activities of nutrition month.
Former Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia shall explain the details of “Barya Mo, Buhay Ko,” a program of the BCNC, as an intermission number shall be presented by San Antonio Village barangay.           
Seedling and menu books distribution for 4P’s parent leader beneficiaries follows, with Mayor Mauricio Domogan delivering the inspirational message. 
Feeding of identified City Camp Health District 4Ps families shall be done later with cooking demonstration at the City Camp Youth Center, by the Mt. Province Mission, Seventh Day Adventist, and Urban Science and Technology Center, Department of Science and Technology (USTC-DOST).
Activities for nutrition month include the 3rd nutrition summit at the Crown Legacy Hotel on July 12, with aims to address and take action as to malnutrition and hunger issues.
An orientation on Pabasa sa Nutrisyon, a new activity, shall be done at July 9 at HSO Conference Hall.
For health advocates, a walk against hunger and malnutrition shall be done on July 27from Panagbenga Park-South Drive-Country Club-Happy Hallow up to Loakan-Apugan.
For the coming week, community feeding of pre-school children, pregnant women and provision of complementary foods to children 6-23 months old, shall be done at Lopez Jaena barangay on July 8, Dominican Mirador on July 9 – 12, Ferdinand and Loakan Apugan on July 10, Green water on July 10 and 14, DPS and Loakan Proper on July 11, Burnham Legarda on July 11 and 16, at Marcoville and Lower Lourdes on July 12, Andres Bonifacio, Bayan Park, Country Club Village, Lourdes Extension and San Roque Village on July 13.
Cooking contest, cooking demonstration, cookfest, recipe contest and “going to the market,” shall be done at Greenwater Village barangay on July 7, 10 and 14; and, San Antonio on July 13 and 20.
Cleanest and greenest purok contest, household backyard/pot gardening clean-up, tree planting, food preservation, green brigade, distribution of seeds, reduce-reuse-recycle, gardening contest shall be done at Kias which is on-going until July 13; Camp 8 on July 8; Lower Lourdes on July 7; Trancoville on July 8 to 12; MRR Queen of Peace on July 10; St. Joseph on July 12; Upper Dagsian on July 12-13, San Antonio and Outlook Drive on July 13, West Quirino Hill on July 13 and 17; Bayan Park on July 13 and 19, Ambiong on July 13 and 20, West Modernsite on July 13 and  20; and Irisan, on July 15 to 20.  
Healthiest baby and mother, and bright child contests, day care children nutrition program shall be done on July 13 at Campo Filipino, on July 15 at Brookside, and July 12 at MRR Queen of Peace.
Information dissemination on dengue control, dental health, health and nutrition seminar/forum/lectures shall be done at Bakakeng Central on July 10, at Sta. Scholastica Village on July 1 to 12, on July 9 at Leonila Hill, on July 10 at Kias, at GEFA on July 13, at Imelda Marcos, Balsigan and City Camp Central on July 13 and 20.
Medical missions are simultaneously scheduled at Gibraltar, West Modernsite and Holy Ghost Proper barangays on July 20;
Bakakeng Central barangay shall be the site of a Responsible Parenthood seminar on July 10;
East Modernsite and North Sanitary Camp barangays shall be recipients of multi-vitamins, medicines, and some basic needs on July 11 and July 14, respectively.
On July 26, an iodized salt raffle draw and trivia shall be done in Irisan barangay.
As site of boarding houses for students, Trancoville and New Lucban barangays shall have cleanest and nutritious eatery contests on July 15 and July 26, respectively.
Other activities such as slogan and poster, essay, drawing/coloring/draw and tell/ nutri-tula contests are slated during the later part of the month.           
The culminating program and awarding ceremony for the nutrition month shall be onAugust 9 at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center Cancer bldg auditorium.
