PUDTOL, Apayao, (PIA) - - The government’s partnership endeavor with the private sector is gaining ground in the rural areas with the recent turn-over of a newly constructed school building in a far flung village here.
ABS-CBN in partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) turned-over last June 30 a one unit school building to the Mataguisi Comprehensive National High School in Pudtol, this province. It was witnessed by the television’s network executives, high ranking AFP officers, and local officials.
The two-classroom building was provided by ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundation Inc. (SKFI) from resources donated by benefactors while the construction was carried out by personnel of the AFP particularly the 501st infantry brigade and the local beneficiaries through ‘bayanihan’ (volunteer work).
During the turn-over, Sagip Kapamilya program director Tina Monzon-Palma assured the people of Apayao saying: “hindi kami bibitiw, ipagpatuloy natin ang ating samahan; huwag kayong magpasalamat dahil ito ay iyong karapatan, ang mabigyan ng silid aralan.”
“You helped build this school building therefore you own this project,” said Deputy Sagip Kapamilya director Marcel Rinon who visited Mataguis four times during the project implementation.
Col. Roger Salvador, Commanding Officer of the 501 IB, thanked SKFI and his men for the successful joint effort. “With the bayanihan program of the government, your Army focus now on the well being and security of the people,” he told the beneficiaries.
Imelda Burigsay, teacher-in-charge of the beneficiary-school, expressed her wholehearted gratitude to all stakeholders who voluntarily helped complete the project saying “this school building came to us as a gift, it was very timely this school year since we have additional classrooms to use.” (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
