UNFPA CONTINUES TO IMPROVE HEALTH SERVICES IN MT. PROV.

BONTOC, Mt. Province – More health development projects  are coming in  greatly enhancing  the delivery of health services of the province.

Mt. Province is a beneficiary of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) projects with pilot areas in the municipalities of Bontoc, Paracelis and Sagada.

According to Ms Jenny Babaran of the UNFPA Provincial Office here, UNFPA assistance is also given to non-pilot areas like the municipalities of Bauko, Besao, Natonin, Sabangan, and Sadanga.

Last June, the province  received equipment/medical supplies worth $30,601.44 from the UNFPA.Of the total amount, each of the Municipal Health Office of the pilot areas received one  kit  composed of  equipment/medical supplies worth $900 per kit.

Each of the Besao District Hospital and the Natonin Community Hospital received the same equipment/medical supplies including a delivery table costing $1,395.00, electronic microscope worth $737.89. Total worth of equipment/medical supplies received by these hospitals is $4,861.62 each.

 

The Sabangan Rural Health Unit received $4,185.59 worth of equipment/medical supplies.  Besao  and the Sadanga Rural Health Unit received supplies worth $3,284.32 and  $2,608.29, respectively.

Babaran said aside from equipment/medical supplies provided by the UNFPA, it has also sponsored community-based training on family planning to midwives and nurses, training on life saving skills to midwives, basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (bemonc) to municipal health officers and nurse/midwife representative per municipality, Bilateral Tubal Ligation (BTL) and Family Planning trainors training.**Juliet B.
